I am not sure how to proceed at this point and any information would be appreciated. I'd purchase AI again but the only thing it offers is some monthly subscription for all of their programs and their cloud storage and all i want is AI. I don't really know what to do at this point. I found it in the program info on my old computer but when i try to enter it on the new computer it says it's invalid. Adobe Illustrator CS2 is a vector graphics software widely used by designers in various spheres, like digital graphics, illustrations and printing. I decided to treat it like it was still the early 2000's and copy the program to a flash drive to move it to the new computer and for the most part it worked but now it's asking for the serial number. All I want to do is move my cs2 to my new computer but there was no way to do that. The email that the program is likely registered to would be the school email that I had when I was attending so I have no access to it/it doesn't exist anymore. Problem is I got my old AIcs2 when I was in college nearly 10 years ago and so all of the packaging that might have come with it has either gone missing over the years or just plain been thrown out. To locate the aiprefs file, do a search for aiprefs, no extension, enable search for hidden and system files.I have AIcs2 on my old computer, but the old thing is begging for death so I got a new computer. You can also make a backup of it in a separate folder. I customize my Illustrator once (I know where I like everything), then close Illustrator and make the aiprefs file read-only. Keep in mind, that you must delete the correct aiprefs file for the version of Illustrator that's having problems, in case you have multiple versions in use. Adobe Illustrator is the industry-leading graphic design tool that lets you design anything you can imagine from logos and icons to graphics and illustrations and customize it with professional-level precision, as well as time-saving features like Repeat for Patterns or Global Edits. Re-installing Illustrator will NOT remove/overwrite any aiprefs that may be present. That last bit doesn't necessarily apply to you, seeing as you both can't even fire up the ol' CS2. The reason it's so important to do this with Illustrator closed is that any corruption would immediately be included in the new aiprefs written upon exit. Deleting the aiprefs file WITH ILLUSTRATOR CLOSED will reset things to factory defaults, and you can re-customize everything to where you like it. When this happens, you can either spend a good chunk of vacation time trying to edit the aiprefs file, or DITCH it and start from scratch. In the process of writing, Illustrator occasionally messes up and corrupts the aiprefs file. Adobe Illustrator CS2 (v.12) is the version of Adobe Illustrator that was included with Adobe Creative Suite 2 and Creative Suite Production Studio Premium. Every time you exit Illustrator, the program updates the aiprefs file, recording any changes that were made and updating the info. I simply need to keep a working version of Photoshop CS2 in addition to that for my output necessities. FWIW I am running Win 7 64 bit and the CS5 Suite as well. The aiprefs file is the location where Illustrator saves a bunch of information about program settings, preferences, palette positions, etcetera. The 'uninstaller' failed to work, so I went throught the manual uninstallation including the registry edits but the CS2 installer still detects Illustrator and Photoshop CS2 as installed. If this is a problem that started to occur after succesfully using Illustrator for some length of time, look into the possibility of a corrupted aiprefs file.
